- 2 medium yellow potatoes about 500g
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese about 100g
- ⅔ cup cornstarch about 100g
- Vegetable oil for frying 1 litre
Step 1. Peel and Chop Potatoes:
Remove the upper layer of Potatoes by using a sharp knife and after removing the layer, cut the potatoes into small pieces that can boil easily.
If you cut each half into eight pieces this will boil more quickly.
Step 2. Boil Potatoes:
Put the potatoes into boiling water, and add 1 tablespoon salt to the water to give the potatoes a salty taste.
Boil Potatoes for Fifteen to Twenty minutes until they become very soft and can be able to eat.
Step 3. Mash the Potatoes
Step 4. Mix mashed potatoes in Cheese and Cornstarch
In mashed potatoes, add some shredded sharp cheddar and cornstarch.
Mix all these things gently with a spatula until they are firm enough to kneel with your clean hands.
The dough of potatoes should be wet but when you poke it, it should not stick to your hands.
Step 5. Put the dough in sandwich bags, Freeze
Divide the dough in half, and put the dough into the 2 sandwich bags.
Keep the bag open and flatten the dough with a rolling pin until it fills the entire bag when you are flattening the dough do not forget to fill the corners of the bags.
Keep the bag open to ensure all the air bubbles get away from the bag.
When your bag is filled, zip the bag up, making sure all the air bubbles escape from the bag, and place both bags into the freezer for Twenty Minutes.
The main reason for freezing is that there will be less chance of it falling apart once we slice into it.
Step 6. Slice Dough into strips, Freeze
After freezing the dough for 20 minutes, cut the sides of the bags carefully this will help us when we cut the dough into strips.
When you are opening the bag, be careful not to cut the dough.
It depends upon you whether you need thick or thin strips, you can cut the strips according to yourself.
I am going to cut the 1 dough into 10 strips means 20 strips in 2 bags.
Though we have frozen the mixture when we pack the dough into bags, now again freeze the strips for 20 minutes to make sure the dough will not break in hot oil.
Step 7. Fry Potatoes in oil:
Use a pan or pot that is large enough to fit the sticks, and heat up the pan or pot at medium-high heat.
Once the temperature reaches medium-high heat put the sticks into the pot or pan that you are using and fry them for almost 3 to 4 minutes or it become crispy or golden brown.
Once all the sticks become crispy or golden brown let them for a few minutes to become cool.
