Ingredients
  

For the Pastry:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chilled butter cut into small pieces
  • 1 beaten egg
  • ¼ cup cold water

For the Filling:

  • 1 cup diced beef
  • 1 cup diced potatoes
  • ½ cup diced onions
  • ½ cup diced swede rutabaga
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Mix flour and butter in a bowl until crumbly.
  • Add beaten egg and cold water.
  • Knead dough until smooth, then chill.
  • Heat oil in a pan, cook beef until brown.
  • Add potatoes, onions, swede, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Cook until vegetables are tender.
  • Roll out pastry, cut into circles.
  • Place filling on one side of each circle.
  • Fold pastry over, seal edges with a fork.
  • Brush with beaten egg.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Cool slightly before serving.

  1. Use cold butter for a flakier pastry.
  2. Handle the dough gently to avoid tough pastry.
  3. Seal the edges well to keep the filling inside.
