- 4 lbs PORK BUTT
- 1 cup CIDER VINEGAR
- 1/2 cup BROWN SUGAR
- 1/2 cup KETCHUP
- 1 large ONION
- 1 tbsp DRY MUSTARD
- 1 tsp CAYENNE
- 2 tsp SALT
- 1 tsp BLACK PEPPER
Prepare your onion by chopping it into small pieces. Place the onion at the bottom of the slow cooker. This creates a flavorful bed for the meat.
Rub the pork meat with your dry spices thoroughly. Make sure every side of the pork is covered well. Place the seasoned pork on top of the onions.
Mix the vinegar, ketchup, and sugar in a small bowl. Pour this liquid mixture over the pork meat slowly. The liquid will help the pork stay very juicy.
Cover the slow cooker with its heavy glass lid. Set the heat to low for eight long hours. Do not open the lid during the cooking time.
Remove the pork from the cooker once it is tender. Place the meat in a large clean bowl carefully. Use two forks to shred the meat into pieces.
Pour some of the leftover juices back onto the meat. Toss the pork so it absorbs all the flavors. Serve your delicious meal while it is still hot.
- Trim the excess fat from the pork before you cook.
- Keep the lid closed to trap all the heat inside.
- Use a high-quality cider vinegar for the best tangy taste.
- Let the meat rest for ten minutes before you shred.
- Always cook on low heat for the most tender results.
- Add a little extra salt at the very end.
- Toast your buns for a better texture and flavor.
- Shred the pork while it is still quite warm.
