Large roasting pan
Aluminum foil
Small saucepan
Pastry brush
Meat thermometer
- 1 10- pound SPIRAL-CUT HAM
- 1/2 cup HONEY
- 1/2 cup BROWN SUGAR
- 2 tbsp DIJON MUSTARD
- 2 tbsp UNSALTED BUTTER
- 1/4 tsp GROUND CLOVES
- 1/2 cup WATER
Take the ham out of the fridge early. Let it sit for about thirty minutes. This helps the meat cook more evenly.
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees now. Place the ham in the roasting pan. Position it with the flat side facing down.
Add a little water to the roasting pan. Cover the ham tightly with heavy aluminum foil. This prevents the ham from drying out.
Bake the ham for about ten minutes per pound. Check the temperature with your meat thermometer often. It should reach 130 degrees inside.
Combine glaze ingredients in your small saucepan. Melt them over medium heat until very smooth. Stir the mixture constantly so it does not burn.
Remove the foil from the ham carefully. Increase the oven heat to 400 degrees now. Brush half of the glaze over the ham.
Put the ham back in the hot oven. Bake it uncovered for ten more minutes. The glaze will start to bubble and brown.
Apply the remaining glaze to the ham slices. Bake for another five to ten minutes. Watch closely so the sugar does not burn.
- Keep the ham covered with foil until the end.
- Use a meat thermometer for the best juicy results.
- Let the ham rest before you start serving it.
- Brush glaze deep between the pre-cut spiral slices.
- Add orange juice for a bright citrus flavor twist.
- Do not overcook the ham or it gets tough.
