For the Filling:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1/2 cup bell pepper finely chopped
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Dough:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold and cut into cubes
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup cold water
For Assembly:
- 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
Prepare the Filling:
Cook ground beef in a skillet over medium heat.
Add chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper.
Cook until vegetables are soft.
Stir in tomato sauce, cumin, paprika, and oregano.
Season with salt and pepper.
Simmer for 10 minutes. Cool.
Prepare the Dough:
Mix flour and salt in a bowl.
Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
Add egg and cold water.
Mix until dough forms.
Roll out dough on a floured surface.
Assemble Empanadas:
Cut dough into circles using a cookie cutter.
Place a spoonful of filling on each circle.
Fold dough over filling and seal edges.
Brush with beaten egg.
Bake Empanadas:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Place empanadas on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
