Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Mix flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and cocoa powder.
  • Combine warm milk, melted butter, egg, and food coloring.
  • Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients gradually.
  • Knead dough until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in greased bowl for rising.
  • Let rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  • Roll dough into 12x18 inch rectangle.
  • Spread softened butter over entire dough surface.
  • Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly.
  • Roll dough tightly from long side.
  • Cut into 12 equal pieces using sharp knife.
  • Place rolls in greased baking dish.
  • Let rise again for 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes.
  • Beat cream cheese frosting ingredients until smooth.
  • Frost warm rolls before serving immediately.

Notes

  1. Use room temperature ingredients for better mixing and rising.
  2. Don't add too much flour - dough should be slightly sticky.
  3. Gel food coloring works better than liquid for vibrant color.
