Pastry brush
- 4 cups ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR
- 1 packet ACTIVE DRY YEAST
- 1 cup WHOLE MILK
- 4 tbsp UNSALTED BUTTER
- 2 tbsp GRANULATED SUGAR
- 1 large EGG
- 1 tsp FINE SALT
Warm your milk in the small saucepan. It should feel like warm bath water. Do not let the milk come to a boil.
Add the sugar and yeast to the milk. Let it sit for five minutes now. The mixture should look very foamy and bubbly.
Mix the flour and salt in your bowl. Add the warm milk mixture and melted butter. Add the beaten egg to the bowl now.
Stir the ingredients until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface. Do this for about five minutes total.
Place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm spot now.
Wait for the dough to double in size. This usually takes about one hour. Punch the dough down very gently now.
Divide the dough into small equal balls. Place them in your greased baking pan. Let them rise again for thirty minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees now. Bake the rolls for fifteen to twenty minutes. They should be a beautiful golden brown.
- Always check if your yeast is fresh and active.
- Use a thermometer to check the milk temperature.
- Do not add too much flour while you knead.
- Let the rolls rise in a draft-free spot.
- Brush with extra butter right after they bake.
