Ingredients

  • 2 ounces of high-quality silver tequila for the base.
  • 1 ounce of fresh-squeezed lime juice for the tang.
  • 1/2 ounce of Cointreau or Triple Sec for the orange.
  • 1/2 ounce of simple syrup for a tiny bit of sweet.
  • 1 tablespoon of coarse sea salt for the glass rim.
  • 1 fresh lime wedge for a colorful garnish today.
  • 2 cups of large ice cubes for the cold shake.
  • A splash of sparkling water for a light fizz.

Instructions

Prep the Salty Rim

  • Rub a lime wedge around the edge of your glass. Dip the wet rim into the coarse salt on a plate now.

Squeeze the Fresh Limes

  • Juice enough limes to get one full ounce of liquid. Make sure there are no seeds in the green juice today.

Measure the Silver Tequila

  • Pour two ounces of tequila into your cocktail shaker. Use a clear spirit for a very clean and crisp look.

Add the Orange Liqueur

  • Add the Cointreau and the simple syrup to the shaker. This balances the sour lime with a sweet and fruity finish.

Fill with Cold Ice

  • Add a handful of large ice cubes into the shaker. Do not use crushed ice or the drink will get watery quickly.

Shake Until Very Frosty

  • Close the lid and shake the metal tin for twenty seconds. The outside of the shaker should feel very cold today.

Strain into the Glass

  • Pour the cold liquid through a strainer into your salted glass. Add fresh ice if you prefer a "rocks" style.

Garnish and Serve Immediately

  • Place a thin lime wheel on the edge of the glass. Serve the drink while it is very bubbly and chilled today.

Notes

  • Always use fresh lime juice instead of the bottled version.
  • Use a 100 percent agave tequila for a much smoother taste today.
  • Chill your glasses in the freezer so the salt sticks better.
  • Shake the drink very hard to get a tiny bit of white foam.
  • Adjust the simple syrup if you love a much more tart drink.
  • Use a high-quality sea salt for a much cleaner mineral flavor.
  • Add a slice of jalapeño if you want a very spicy kick now.
