Glass Bowl
- 12 oz CRANBERRIES
- 1 cup SUGAR
- 1 cup WATER
- 1 strip ORANGE ZEST
- 1 whole CINNAMON STICK
Wash your fresh cranberries in a large colander. Remove any soft or bruised berries right away. Rinse them well under cool running water.
Place the sugar and water into your saucepan. Turn the stove to a medium heat setting. Stir until the sugar dissolves into the water.
Add the clean cranberries to the sweet syrup. Toss in the cinnamon stick and orange zest. Stir everything together gently with your spoon.
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil now. The berries will start to pop and crack. This sound means they are releasing their juices.
Reduce the heat to a low simmer quickly. Cook the sauce for about ten minutes. The liquid will become thick and very dark.
Remove the saucepan from the hot stove. Take out the cinnamon stick and discard it. Let the sauce cool down at room temperature.
- Use fresh berries instead of frozen for better texture.
- Do not overcook the berries or they get bitter.
- Add a splash of orange juice for extra zing.
- Chill the sauce for two hours before serving it.
- Taste the sauce while warm to check the sweetness.
- Stir constantly to prevent the sugar from burning.
