Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 large potatoes sliced thin
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp paprika

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Grease 9x13 inch baking dish thoroughly.
  • Mix ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs in bowl.
  • Add diced onion, garlic, salt, pepper.
  • Press meat mixture into baking dish bottom.
  • Layer sliced potatoes over meat evenly.
  • Mix sour cream, melted butter, salt together.
  • Pour mixture over potato layer completely.
  • Sprinkle cheese and paprika on top.
  • Cover with foil, bake 45 minutes.
  • Remove foil, bake 15 minutes more.
  • Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  1. Use a mandoline slicer for even cooking and better presentation.
  2. Let the casserole cool for 10 minutes to set properly before cutting.
  3. Sauté diced onions first to remove excess moisture and enhance flavor.
  4. Press meatloaf layer firmly to prevent air pockets underneath potatoes.
  5. Insert knife through center; it should slide through potatoes easily when done.
